Currently under construction is Phase II of the office building Medicus, in Windham, New Hampshire, designed by Berard Martel Architecture, Inc.
Medicus Healthcare Solutions is a cutting edge national company, which provides hospitals, physician groups, and other healthcare organizations nationwide with resources, services, and strategies to help cover staff shortages and to build and optimize service lines and departments.
When designing the new Medicus Headquarters, the company's innovation and quality service wnated to be apparent in the design, which led to the use of InsulatedConcrete Forms.
Insulating concrete form or an insulated concrete form (ICF) is a system of formwork for reinforced concrete usually made with a rigid thermal insulation that stays in place as a permanent interior and exterior substrate for walls, floors, and roofs. The forms are interlocking modular units that are dry-stacked (without mortar) and filled with concrete. The units lock together somewhat like Lego bricks and create a form for the structural walls or floors of a building.
Over the course of two phases of the Medicus project, Berard Martel Architecture has become well versed in the field of ICF's; its use is becoming more commonplace for commercial and high performance residential construction, as more stringent energy efficiency building codes are adopted.
